Obituary

Carroll David Bryant was born March 1, 1957, to the late John Arthur Bryant and Jean Elizabeth Bryant of Baltimore, MD. He departed this life February 4, 2023.

Carroll, who went by his middle name David, was born and raised in Baltimore City. The second of five boys, he received his formal education in the Baltimore City public school system. He received his diploma from Douglass High School in 1975 before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. He served for six years and was honorably discharged in 1981 with the rank of Corporal. David spent over 30 years in law enforcement, first as a police officer for Baltimore City and then as a correctional officer for the Maryland Reception, Diagnostic, and Classification Center.

David was united in holy matrimony to C. Maxine Hughes on February 14, 1988. David and Maxine’s marriage created a blended family in which they were parents to four children. They were married for 16 years until Maxine’s passing in 2004.

In 2006, David met Kahdijah Pitts; they married in 2008. Together they created another large and loving blended family of children and grandchildren. Their love is proof that Orioles and Yankees fans can get along.

David was a creative, versatile man who enjoyed working with his hands. He could do any DIY project, from repairing a kitchen sink to renovating and finishing a basement. He was also a gifted artist who could draw, paint, and write poetry.

His greatest gift, however, was his sense of humor. David loved to laugh, and he loved making others laugh too. In hard times, he would still find a way to lighten the mood with humor. If you had spent any length of time with him, you probably had at least one inside joke that you and he shared. His nieces and nephews would tell you that Uncle David was the life of every party and family gathering.

David is preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Marie Bryant; his parents, John Bryant, Sr., and Elizabeth Bryant; wife C. Maxine Bryant; brothers Charles Bryant, John Bryant, Jr., and Stanley Bryant; aunt Dorothy Ross; mother-in-law Louise Pitts; nephew Duane Spruill; niece Tiffini Spruill; granddaughter Lyric Pitts; and sister-in-law Constance Caldwell.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 15 years, Kahdijah Pitts-Bryant; one brother, Kenneth Bryant; sons Dion Bryant and Jared Pitts; daughters Roslyn Smith, Dominique Bryant, Davina Bryant, Ajani Pitts, and Monique Davis; one aunt, Joan Ross; sisters-in-law Annette Lassiter, Jacqueline Capel, Yvonne Bryant, and Angela Smith; sons-in-law Maurice Smith and Dean Bea; grandchildren Jasmine Smith, Janae Smith, Dejanae Bea, Destinee Bea, and Delen Bea; two generations of loving nieces and nephews; family dog Kobe Bryant; and a host of other relatives and friends.
