Journey of Life "Well done, good and faithful servant…Enter into the joy of your Lord." ~ Matthew 25:21 ~ Gloria Octavia Simpson, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2025, at the age of 91. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, on November 5, 1933, Gloria was the cherished daughter of the late Dorothy Octavia Lewis and George Lewis Prout Jr. She received her early education through the Baltimore City Public Schools and proudly graduated from the historic Frederick Douglass High School. Her pursuit of knowledge led her to Morgan State University, and she later completed her studies at Strayer University. Gloria dedicated her life to public service, working as a Claims Technician with the Social Security Administration for an incredible 50 years. She began her career in 1956 and retired in 2006, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism, compassion, and unwavering dedication. Even in retirement, Gloria remained active and engaged with her community. She participated in senior programs at the Waxter Center and Sinai and was a proud advocate member of the Eastern Star. Her life was defined by love, strength, and service. Gloria had an extraordinary ability to bring people together with her warmth, sense of humor, and nurturing spirit. In 2015, she became a resident of FutureCare Lochearn, where she spent her final years surrounded by the devoted care of staff and the constant love of family and friends. Gloria’s legacy continues through her devoted children, Cheryl O. Simpson and John H. Simpson; her grandchildren, Kiara Thompson, Kyana Thompson, Reche Simpson, Shajuan Simpson, and Briana Dunbar; her daughters-in-law, Leslie Thompson (first) and Yetunde O. Simpson (current); and a host of family members who meant the world to her. She is also lovingly remembered by her surviving brothers, Larry Prout and Tyrone Prout, and her sisters, Mallory Prout, Georgeanna Peters, Juanita “Wyonie” Smith, Hilarie Jackson, Kim Francis, and Tonia Stewart. Gloria is now reunited with her late brothers Allen, Wendell, Arnell, Wesley, and Lewis “Skip” Prout, and her beloved sisters Dorothy Prout, Oreatha Dickerson, and Frances Prout. She will be deeply missed by her dear friend, Juanita Robinson, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Gloria Octavia Simpson was a beacon of grace, wisdom, and unconditional love. Her presence enriched the lives of everyone she touched, and her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
