Emily Veronica McCown (Smith) was born March 21st, 1957 at her childhood home in Bennettsville, South Carolina to the late Esther Mae and Cornelius Smith.
Emily accepted the gift of Salvation at the young age of thirteen and was baptized at First
Charity Baptist Church by Reverend Thomas C. Turner in 1975. Faith and prayer was a source of strength throughout Emily' s life.
Emily received her early education from the Marlboro County School District and the
Baltimore City Public School System. Emily graduated with her high school diploma from Paul Laurence Dunbar Senior High School in 1975. After completing high school Emily furthered her education earning an associate's degree in general education from Community
College of Baltimore (BCCC) in 1978. Emily was a firm believer in the word and did not accept "easy" teachings from anyone. Emily earned several ministry credentials from
Baltimore School of the Bible. A preliminary and advanced teachers certificate in 1985.
Graduating with her diploma in evangelical teaching in 1988. Emily also attended Arlington Bible College pursuing a bachelor's degree until her health no longer permitted.
Emily was a hardworking and dedicated employee at the National Security Agency (NSA) in Fort Meade, Maryland. After 37 years of service she retired in 2012.

Smith, Cornelius Smith Jr. and Samuel L. Smith Sr.; One sister-cousin: Edith Fisher - Kollock; One brother-cousin: Melvin White; Two-nieces: Katrina L. Hall and Tiffani N. Jones; Three-
Nephews: Brandon J. Quick, Gideon S. Rogers Jr. and Samuel L. Smith Jr.; Two-great nieces:
Tarena L. Wilson and Leah Rogers; Four-great nephews: Earl J. Smith Ill, Kymonne N. Jones, Christian M. Harris and Neiko G. Rogers; Two-godsisters: Roslyn D. Holt and Sandra D. Whitley; Three-goddaughters: Tiffani Harcum, Tera Keene and Jay Summerville; Twogodsons: Glenn McCown Jr. and Deshawn Brock. A host of special family and friends.
Emily loved you all and she will be deeply missed.
